Campus Closed for the remainder of the year; All Students Conducting Distance Learning Through June
Per Governor Baker’s emergency order to close all Massachusetts K-12 schools through the end of the school year, Friends Academy students will not return to campus this spring.
All students will continue with distance learning through the remainder of the year. Families will receive regular email communication from teachers, division heads, and Mr. Kennedy with details on distance learning resources and schedules.
Business Office Hours During Campus Closure
The Business Office will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to noon each week during the campus closure. If you need to reach the Business Office with any questions (i.e. contracts, tuition, technology, etc.), call (508) 999-1356 x1104 during those times or email Katherine Furtado anytime. (Please note, campus is closed until further notice per Governor Baker’s orders, so any inquiries must be made via phone and/or email.)
Summer Programs Update: The letter below was sent to all camp registrants on May 22nd.
I hope that you are all safe and well, and that warmer weather has allowed you to get out of the house to stretch your legs and see other people – from an appropriate distance of course!
I am writing to inform you that as of today we have decided to cancel our summer programs. For the past three months I have had daily conversations with my peers in the summer camp world in Massachusetts and across New England. Our team has looked over plans for opening and the reasons for not opening of camps in many other parts of the country as well. We have listened to state and local leaders and representatives from the state department of Public Health, and our local board of health. Throughout this time we have been formulating our own plans about how to safely open the FA Summer Programs. On Monday Governor Baker released his four phase plan for reopening the state. After careful consideration of the document we feel that we cannot open and run a program of the quality that you have come to expect from us.
This has not been an easy decision. We start planning for camps in September, and spend the next nine months working to ensure that we can have the best program possible. We know that your children look forward to learning new skills, trying a new sport, brushing up on academics, making new friends, and seeing old ones. We know too that you often need us for child care so that you can work or run errands. I worry about my counselors who need their pay for household expenses or to pay for college. There are so many things that factor into this decision. It all comes down to the most important thing, the safety of our campers and their families.
If you are interested in any summer academic tutoring, and/or specialized Orton-Gillingham tutoring, please reach out to Laura Velazquez at firstname.lastname@example.org. Our Sally Borden Connect Program is available virtually via individual and group tutoring sessions.
Thank you, and be well,
Library Books Outstanding
There are several library books outstanding, and we are developing a process to get them returned to campus. More to come on that in the next couple of weeks. But in the meantime, click here to access Jeanne McCullough’s website to determine what library books your child(ren) have outstanding. Please reach out to Ms. McCullough at email@example.com with any questions.
