Limited spaces are available – registrations are available on a first come, first served basis. Below are descriptions of some of this camp season’s expedition programs. For information on other programs we offer you can click on the link to last summer’s brochure to get a glimpse of past camps. Many programs will be the same, but we always offer new programs as well.

CYCLE NEW ENGLAND – NEW Hampshire TO DARTMOUTH

Grades 8-11 | Weeklong: Sunday 7/12 -1:00-4:00, Monday 7/13 9:00am – Friday 7/17 3:00pm.

Ride with Mr. Pelissier and Ms. Furtado as we cycle and camp our way across New England. From the Dublin School at the base of Mount Monadnock to the rolling hills of our local area, we’ll pedal our way each day to a new camping site. We will travel as a community, riding, planning menus and cooking, setting up camp, and having fun together. We will learn to be our own mechanics, and travel carrying all we need to be self sufficient. We’ll stop along our way as needed, and when something interesting catches our eye. Our travel will be on bike paths and public roads, so good riding skills and endurance are essential for this expedition. We carry all of our gear, and aim to travel at about ten miles per hour throughout the day.

Upon registration, a packing list and further instructions will be forwarded to you. Participants must supply their own bicycle appropriate for long distance travel and carrying of both personal and group gear. Appropriate gearing for road travel, and at least a rear bike rack are required. Saddle bags will be provided if necessary.

Cost: $795/week

EXPEDITION SOUTHCOAST

Grades 8-11 | Weeklong: Date TBD.

Come join Mr. Zine and Ms. Bingham as they explore the trails, waterways and coastal islands of Southeastern Massachusetts. We will begin this five day overnight adventure on the Westport River canoeing to our first campsite on Great Island. After a hearty breakfast we’ll break camp and travel on to our next camp at Round the Bend Farm. From there we strike out over land toward Demarest Lloyd State Park, and some swimming. From here we will board a boat to Cuttyhunk Island where we will hike to our next campsite on Gosnold Island in Westend Pond. There we will spend our time exploring the natural history of the Elizabeth Islands, working for a brief spell at Cuttyhunk Oyster Farm, foraging, observing seals and other wildlife, learning camp-craft and making lifelong friends. You’ll bring with you, find, or make along the way all you need for this exciting journey. Upon registration a packing list and further instructions will be forwarded to you.

Cost: $795/week

CYCLE MARTHA’S VINEYARD

Grades 8-11 | Weeklong: Sunday 8/2 -1:00-4:00, Monday 8/3 9:00am – Friday 8/7 3:00pm.

Do you love to ride, but you’re not sure that you want to ride across New England? This might be the camp for you! We’ll set up our base at a campground on Martha’s Vineyard and do various day trips from our site. We’ll ride to see the cliffs and shops at Gay Head, spend some time in Vineyard Haven and Edgartown, and truly get to experience the Vineyard at an up-close and personal level. We’ll explore beaches, bike trails and backroads as we pedal our way through this historic island world. Our travel will be on bike paths and public roads, so good riding skills and endurance are essential for this expedition.

Thank you for taking an interest in the Friends Academy Summer Programs. Whether your child is a student at Friends Academy or attends school elsewhere, there are many reasons for kids to spend some time with us this summer, but two of the most compelling are the quality of our programs, and the safe, family friendly environment that we promote.  Whether you’re looking for academics, sports, themed weeks for younger campers, or adventure programs for older campers there is something here for you.  There are opportunities for everyone to have fun, learn new skills, and enhance current talents.

We make this happen in a few ways.

  • Our counselors are highly trained. Most are teachers in their fields.
  • They are energetic and fun loving: this is evident in the experiences they help create for campers.
  • We have a low camper to staff ratio. Counselors get to know campers better, so they can better meet their individual needs.
  • Our programs are designed with specific ages in mind. They cater to the developmental needs of each age group.
  • We keep campers busy with plenty of structure, but allow them opportunities and some choice in their day.

Hope to see you this summer!

Charley Pelissier, Director of External Programs

Children will have fun adventures as they learn new skills in a safe and nurturing environment.
New friends and memories will be made, as they grow in an atmosphere of challenge and acceptance.
